To learn is to grow, to grow is to live. When organizations or individuals stop learning, they stop living. By having a systematic and effective way to learn and grow, a business can forever stay young, dynamic and profitable. 

We know that change is inevitable, always has been, and always will be. But in the past, organizations had more time to adjust to change and still remain a profitable business. Every organization had to learn to improve as part of growing, but without the urgency and competitive demands that exist today. For the most part the learning necessary to grow was situational and ad hoc.

Today this is no longer true. We cannot wait for things to change and then react. By the time we react, the next change will have already passed us by. Businesses can no longer survive profitably by using this same approach. They need to anticipate and drive the change. They need to find a way to get ahead of the curve and stay there. And the only way to do that is to be "process-driven’ in the ways we learn and grow so we can evolve to new performance hights.

We call this process-driven, systematic way: EVOLVTM - a methodology that enables a business to evolve to the next level and on an ongoing basis to keep up with continuous change and improvement efforts.

The EVOLV methodology, in summary, provides the key points that are essential to be effective, efficient and profitable in any business inititative one undertakes. It uses a simple, yet powerful model to enable an organization to learn and grow on an ongoing basis by following 5 phases outline below:

 

  • Evaluate and analyze both internal and external needs, challenges and root cause from a holistic and balanced perspective to gain the clarity needed to determine opportunities, risk and returns on investment
     
  • Use this information to formulate your next step using a visioning and planning process that defines your strategy for what you want to accomplish
     
  • Outline the plan, align the people, organize and optimize what needs to be done from a development perspective
     
  • Launch and rollout the intitiative and learn as things begin to
     
  • Valuate the results and drive the process using an effective monthly reporting system that keep everyone focused on what is necessary to drive to higher performance


These activities with the right tools enable the continuous learning and growth when used with a process that is operationalized into the culture for everyone to follow. Depending on the initiative, the details of the process will change but not the overall process itself.

When applied at the organizational level, below is an overview of how the process would work:

Evaluate & Research

The first phase begins with evaluating the specific initiative at hand by first understanding current challenges and needs, threats and opportunities for growth. The purpose of this step is to assess the gap and help formulate more clarity and document findings.

Visioning & Planning

Next in this phase the vision is defined or clarified taking into account the analysis done in the first step. The vision then gets broken down into the strategy using best practices.

The goal from the visioning and planning stage is to determine the direction to take.

Organize & Build 

The 3rd phase is ensuring the plan is organized to align the tasks to the right resources needed to develop the riequired project(s). This phase is critical in getting buy-in and commitment from everyone involved and clarifying expectations, roles, responsibility on the project(s) and outcomes desired.

This includes providing everyone with a clear schedule, status reporting process and a dashboard to ensure everyone is focused on what is necessary to achieve the needed results.

The deliverable from this phase is the development and completion of the project.

Launch & Learn

The launch phase is the roll out  and operationalization of the initiative(s).   This phase also requires the operational reporting process with measures necessary to monitor performance.  The performance measures must be part of a monitoring process with periodic review meetings put in place to manage and maximize results.

Success Factors 

The valuation phase is measures the success factors that are part of the overall strategic objective with comparison to targets.

The valuation step is about keeping one's eye on the bottom line and determining how to meet the goals. 

The valuation phase ensures that a continuous improvement process becomes part of the system so the organization can continue to  E-VOLVe. It is in fact the step that shows you what the power of planning, systematizing and focusing on clear objectives and performance measures can do at all levels.
